Things to know about Ahead Caps / Top Caps What is an Ahead Cap?
The Ahead cap, colloquially also called top cap, is used to adjust the play of the headset. To do this, the Ahead Cap screw is tightened with a torque of approx. 5 Nm before the stem is screwed tight. If the headset is adjusted correctly, the suspension fork can be turned easily and has no more play, the stem can also be tightened according to the manufacturer's specifications. With the headset adjusted, the most important function of the Ahead cap is now fulfilled. Theoretically, the Ahead cap could now be unscrewed, as the support function is now taken over by your stem. However, removing the Ahead cap would reveal an unsightly hole in the steerer tube of the suspension fork. To close this hole nicely, we at Unleazhed offer you various designs with which you can beautify your bicycle cockpit.
How are your top caps made?
Our Unleazhed aluminium top caps are finished directly at our headquarters in Dresden and printed with special machines in a detailed and durable manner. Depending on the colour of the Ahead cap, the UV-stable lacquer creates an eye-catching colour effect and thus ensures a unique and unmistakable look.
We provide our Unleazhed Carbon Ahead Caps with high-quality branding, in which the design is burned directly into the carbon. This creates an exclusive and discreet look that is unrivalled in the cycling industry. A carbon cockpit should not be without our carbon top cap.
What is included in the scope of delivery?
We deliver a ready-to-install top cap including screw. The black anodised aluminium screw (M6 x35) is barely visible during installation and disappears into the milled holes provided in the Ahead cap.
